Die DDR-Rockband Pankow um Sänger André Herzberg spielt im November in Magdeburg und Leipzig. Die Klassiker sind natürlich im Gepäck, allen voran das legendäre „Langeweile“. Auch eine gehörige Portion Historie wird mit nach Leipzig reisen
Bleischwere Agonie, Worte ohne Sinn. Und plötzlich kommen ein paar nuschelige Zeilen, plötzlich können Töne Kollektiverfahrungen bündeln. Ein Durchschlagen des gordischen Knotens. Als die DDR-Rockband Pankow vor mehr als 30 Jahren den Song „Langeweile“, zu finden auf der legendären Platte „Aufruhr in den Augen“ (1988), von der Leine ließ, war ein Nerv getroffen. Pankow brachte die Seelen des Arbeiter- und Bauernstaates zum Glühen: „Das selbe Land zu lange geseh’n / Die selbe Sprache zu lange gehört / Zu lange gehofft / Zu lange gewartet / Zu lange die alten Männer verehrt / Ich bin rumgerannt / Zu viel rumgerannt / Zu viel rumgerannt / Es ist doch nichts passiert.“
Sänger André Herzberg, neben dem Gitarristen und Sänger Jürgen Ehle Gründungsmitglied von Pankow, lacht still in sich hinein. Es war ein Glück, dass die Sprengkraft des Songs den offenbar schon müden Ohren der Zensoren verborgen geblieben ist. „Ja, das war unsere damalige Stimmung. Aber dass dieses Lied eine derartige politische Dimension bekommen würde, hat sowohl uns als auch die SED-Funktionäre überrascht“, so Herzberg, Jahrgang 1955 und in Ostberlin geboren.
Pankow gelang mit „Aufruhr in den Augen“ ein unverwüstliches Meisterwerk des deutschen Rocks. Kraftvoll melancholisch, bewegend widerborstig. 2017 haben es Ehle und Herzberg zusammen mit dem Schlagzeuger Stefan Dohanetz und dem Keyboarder Kalle Dziuk noch einmal im neuen Klanggewand eingespielt.
Warum? Herzberg erzählt aufrichtig: „Das Album ist für uns bis heute Maßstab für das, was wir sein wollen mit unserer Musik, mit all den Themen, den Riffs, der Härte und Zärtlichkeit. Wir waren damals voller Energie, bei dem Album waren wir uns absolut sicher.“ Es war der große Meilenstein, noch heute können die Qualität und die Zeitlosigkeit der Songs begeistern. Auch die Hoffnung auf eine Reform der DDR prägte besagte Platte, im Song „Ich bin bei dir“, der den Ausreisern gewidmet war, heißt es: „Wir haben noch eine Chance / Wenn du nur willst.“ So unterzeichnete Pankow im September 1989 auch die Resolution von Rockmusikern und Liedermachern, die für Veränderungen innerhalb der DDR plädierte. Doch alles ging schneller, bald wurden nicht nur die alten Männer nicht mehr verehrt, sondern auch die Idee eines demokratischen Sozialismus hinfortgejagt.
Auch für Herzberg ging es bergab, Sozialhilfe, Depressionen. Persönliche Probleme, die auch gesamtgesellschaftlich waren und sind. Rückblicke: „Ich war von der gefühlten ersten Reihe in die gefühlte fünfzigste Reihe gerutscht.“ Das Berappeln dauert, ab 2011 füllt die Band wieder größere Hallen. Mittlerweile hatten auch die Weggefährten und das Publikum die Grautöne im bunten Westen geschmeckt, die Lust am Aufbruch war wieder da.
Herzberg fing zu schreiben an, 2015 legte er das Buch „Alle Nähe fern“ vor. Gerade hat er das Album und den gleichnamigen Roman „Was aus uns geworden ist“ veröffentlicht. Erzählt werden im Buch Geschichten von DDR-Bürgern jüdischer Herkunft. Der antifaschistische Widerstand und die Macht der Funktionäre, die zur inneren Emigration zwang. Auch ein neues Wirtschaftssystem erlöste nicht das Schweigen und die Verwerfungen in den Familien.
Im Titelsong der neuen Platte heißt es: „Komm, schau dir an / Was aus uns geworden ist.“ Dabei zählt die Aufrichtigkeit, nur sie kann instrumentalisierte Nachwende-Zerwürfnisse in ein humanes Miteinander bringen. Heute kann man mit Pankow aufbrechen und verweilen, die guten alten Songs haben eine neue Qualität bekommen. Chapeau!
